Randy - Violin, Viola
Randy grew up in Sylvania and attended the University of Toledo, where he studied violin with Charles Everett and Kirk Toth. He has been a member of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra since 1979 and teaching at the Maumee Valley Country Day School.
Mr. Randy comes from a strong musical heritage. His mother’s family has all been amateur musicians, singers, and church musicians. One of his grandfathers was a professional musician with the big bands in the 1930s and ‘40s, and later with the Toledo Symphony and other orchestras. Mr. Randy got his start on the violin when his grandfather gave him a violin at age 10.
Randy has been teaching privately since 1979 and strongly believes in a well- rounded and thorough approach to technique for all his students of all ages. His teaching approach includes tone production, bowing styles, dynamics and musical expression, in addition to strong rhythmic and music-reading skills. He stresses regular, daily practice at home, as well as developing analytical and problem-solving skills, including a variety of practice methods.
