Thomas - Violin, Viola
Originally from Long Island, violinist Thomas is currently based in Bowling Green, Ohio. Thomas recently received his masters from Bowling Green State University as a student of Caroline Chin. During his time at BGSU, he was a member of the Graduate String Quartet and concertmaster of the BGSU Philharmonia. In 2019, he was a winner in the annual BGSU Concerto Competition. An avid chamber musician, Thomas has collaborated with the Bowling Green New Music Ensemble, performing works by Steve Reich, Erkki-Sven Tüür and the premiere of a new work by Anthony Donofrio during the Fall 2019 Annual New Music Festival at Bowling Green. Additionally, he has collaborated with many composers and premiered works written for him including Cold Brew Rejuvenation (2019) by Jon-Luke Martin. In 2019, Thomas was a guest performer at The Society of Composers, Inc. Region V Conference, performing Cold Brew Rejuvenation. In the summer 2019 season, Thomas played with The Next Festival of Emerging Artists, performing at the National Sawdust in Brooklyn, NY. He also was a violinist at the Brevard Music Center in 2019, playing as a member of the Music Center Orchestra, Sinfonia, and Brevard Camerata. In 2016 & 2017, he attended the National Music Festival as a violin apprentice. He has played in masterclasses for the Formosa Quartet, Shanghai Quartet, Apollo’s Fire, Zachary DePue, Ari Streisfeld, and Scott St. John. A passionate teacher, Thomas has taught students through the Creative Arts Program at BGSU. He received his Bachelor’s of Music in Performance from the State University of New York at Fredonia, studying with Maureen Yuen. In his free time, Thomas enjoys pizza, puns, and cold brew.
