Shundrick - Saxophone, Clarinet
Shundrick’s musical journey began at an early age when he learned the fundamentals of drums and piano from his grandmother. In 2014, he started playing saxophone at West Carrollton Middle School in Dayton, Ohio. During high school, his love and appreciation for music flourished, leading him to perform in his school’s jazz ensemble on tenor saxophone as well as participate in solo and ensemble performances on both tenor and alto saxophones.
Currently, Shundrick is pursuing a degree in Music Education with a focus on Instrumental Music on Alto Saxophone at the University of Toledo. During his time there, he has developed his skills as both a soloist and an ensemble member. He continues to refine his craft through Applied Music Lessons and has also taken clarinet as his secondary instrument. His dedication to music has led him to master various brass and woodwind instruments and serve as the principal saxophonist in the University Wind Ensemble.
Beyond academics, Shundrick sees music as a powerful source of community and connection. He is an active member of three music-based organizations: Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and OCMEA. He believes music is a gateway to growth and excellence, a philosophy he integrates into his teaching. Shundrick also works as a woodwind technician, helping high school bands during summer band camps.
Outside of music, Shundrick embraces challenges and personal growth. He continuously seeks ways to improve and reflect on his actions. When he’s not immersed in music, you can find him working as a guide at the Toledo Zoo Aerial Zipline and Challenge Course, where he combines his love for adventure with his drive to step outside his comfort zone.
