Kiersten - Flute
Kiersten is a Flute Performance major at Bowling Green State University, where she studies with Dr. Roberta Michel. She has previously studied with Dr. Keren Schweitzer and Dr. Terri Sánchez, and in her earlier years with Dr. Cleo Leung, Bonnie Jenkins, and Dr. Heather Verbeck.
At BGSU, Kiersten performs with the Philharmonia, Falcon Flute Choir, and various chamber ensembles, and has previously played in the BGSU Wind Symphony. She also plays piano as a secondary instrument.
Kiersten’s achievements include winning WDPR Dayton’s Discover Classical Young Talent Search in 2021 and placing 2nd in the David L. Pierson Concerto Competition. From 2019 to 2023, she served as principal flutist with the Dayton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. She has also performed with the Ohio All-State Band (2022, 2023), the Ohio Southwest Region Orchestra, and the Wright State University Wind Symphony. Throughout her high school years, she participated in numerous honor bands and summer workshops, while remaining actively involved in her school’s music program as drum major and student conductor.
In 2023 and 2024, Kiersten attended The Consummate Flutist Masterclass Series at Carnegie Mellon University, where she performed for and learned from world-renowned flutists, including Lorna McGhee, principal flutist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Most recently, in the winter of 2024, she performed flute and piccolo with the Perrysburg Symphony.
Kiersten has taught private flute lessons since middle school and is passionate about helping students grow both musically and personally. She aspires to attend graduate school, establish her own flute studio, and perform professionally.
Outside of music, Kiersten enjoys spending time with her husband, Bennett, whom she married in the summer of 2025, and their two cats, Puck and Gubby. Her hobbies include reading, lifting weights, practicing pilates, cooking, baking, and “treasure hunting” at thrift stores and flea markets.
