Grace - Clarinet, Saxophone

Grace started on clarinet at the age of 10 years old in the beginning band. She then went on to serve as a woodwind leader, and drum major in her high school marching band. Then, Grace chose to study at Bowling Green State University under the instruction of Professor Kevin Schempf. In college, she also picked up the saxophone, F horn, and bass clarinet. She is now in the fourth year of her degree.
Grace spends a lot of time not only with schoolwork but also in several student organizations. She is a part of the honorary band fraternity Kappa Kappa Psi and serves as Vice President of Service, and the honorary all-female music fraternity Sigma Alpha Iota serving as the Service committee chair, and Clarinet Club as the secretary. Much of her time is dedicated to planning service events to help the community, but most of all to helping the band students at BGSU. Grace also performs with the BGSU Concert band and with the clarinet club. On some weekends, she assists the Falcon Marching Band on game days filling water, handing out snacks at halftime, loading and unloading the larger instruments, and making sure everyone is having a good time.
Grace’s teaching philosophy is that students learn best when they are having fun and connecting their own interests to their musical practice. She has been known to mix in fun tunes from her student’s favorite shows, musicians, and even video games along with the standard repertoire. Grace’s goal as a teacher is to have a fun and inviting studio that allows students to blossom as individuals and musicians.
Grace will be graduating in 2024 with a BA in Music Education with an instrumental specialization. She hopes to move on to teach middle school-high school band but hopes to still teach some private lessons on the side.
