Emily - Flute
Emily is Flute Performance and Music History Masters student Bowling Green State University and currently studies with Dr. Roberta Michel.
Emily began her collegiate studies at the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music, where she pursued studies in Flute Performance and Music History. During her time at Baldwin Wallace, she was the recipient of the Roberta Calderwood Scholarship from 2021–2024 and the Janet Gans ’66 Brown and Dr. Edward Brown Music Scholarship during the 2023–2024 academic year.
As a performer, Emily has participated in a wide variety of large and small ensembles. Her performance experience includes the Baldwin Wallace Symphony Orchestra, Baldwin Wallace Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Baldwin Wallace Symphonic Band, Kaboom Studio Orchestra, Chamber Convocation, and numerous chamber ensembles. At Bowling Green State University, she has performed with the Wind Symphony and the Early Music Ensemble. Her principal flute teachers have included Sean Gabriel, George Pope, Dr. Kaleb Chesnic, and Keren Schweitzer.
In addition to her performance work, Emily has a strong interest in musicological research and historical flute pedagogy. Through the RBI Scholars program at Baldwin Wallace, she conducted research on two early twentieth-century flute pedagogical manuals housed in the Riemenschneider Bach Institute. Her research continued through the Summer Scholars program, where she further explored early twentieth-century flute pedagogy as part of her thesis research. In 2023, she presented her research on early twentieth-century flute pedagogy, sharing her scholarly work with an audience beyond the classroom.
Emily is also passionate about music education and mentorship. During her undergraduate studies, she tutored students in music theory at Baldwin Wallace and participated in several pedagogical seminars throughout both her undergraduate and graduate studies. Her academic experiences have allowed her to combine her interests in performance, historical scholarship,and teaching, while developing skills in research, organization, communication, creativity, collaboration, problem solving, and adaptability.
Outside of her formal academic work, Emily enjoys spending time with her cat, Miss Kitty, being with friends, and hiking.
