Deja - Piano, Voice

Deja, the soprano is a Dallas, Texas native. In her youth, Deja was always drawn to the world of music, she played many instruments while in grade school, and participated in many youth orchestras and bands. Entering her freshman year of college Deja received a band scholarship that allowed her to attend Prairie View A&M University, a small college near Houston, Texas. This was where she was inspired to join the university choir and become a voice at the beginning of her sophomore year.
From that moment Deja fell in love with performing and through the university choir gained valuable experience as a musician and soloist. As a member of PVAMU Concert Chorale Deja performed several large choral works, including Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, Duruflé’s Requiem, and Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms.
In 2018, she was a chorus soloist with the Victorian Symphony in their concert performance of Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, and, later that year, performed on national television as a soloist with 105 Voices of History at MLK50, the 50th Commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Deja has also been a member and soloist in ensembles such as Prairie View Singers, Houston Ebony Opera Guild, and Voices of Houston. In 2019 Deja was a semifinalist in the Greater Houston NATS Vocal Competition. The following year Deja participated in a masterclass with renowned mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton where Barton deemed Deja “Made for opera!”
Moving forward Deja hopes to share her love of music with a vast and diverse audience and share her knowledge with aspiring young singers.
In December of 2021, Deja earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Vocal Performance from Prairie View A&M University, and she is continuing her education at Bowling Green State University pursuing a master’s degree in Music Voice Performance.
